Plain answers about how EcoScore works, what it counts, and what happens to your data.
- What does EcoScore do?
- It estimates your yearly carbon footprint from a short questionnaire, shows where it comes from, and suggests small, concrete ways to reduce it.
- How is my footprint worked out?
- Each answer is multiplied by an emission factor from a published dataset. Every figure names its source, the year and the factor that was applied, right beside the number.
- Is the number exact?
- No. It is an estimate, not a measurement, and the product says so beside every headline figure. The results show a range around it and the assumptions that went into it.
- Why does my country matter?
- It chooses the average your footprint is compared with, and the factors that differ between countries, such as how much carbon your electricity carries. You can change it in Settings → Account.
- Does EcoScore offset my emissions?
- No. EcoScore is about reducing your own footprint, not paying to cancel it out somewhere else.
- Who can see me on the leaderboards?
- Everyone with a footprint is counted on the global and country boards. Unless you turn on social features in Settings → Privacy, your row carries no name — only “Eco Hero” and the figures. Your bio is never shown to anyone else.
- Can I get my data, or delete my account?
- Settings → Privacy → Export my data gives you a file with your profile and everything stored under your account. Deleting the account is the last thing in Settings; it erases the same data and cannot be undone.
- What is free, and what does Premium add?
- The calculator, your results and your history are free. The pricing page lists everything Premium adds, and what it costs.
